On Sunday, the average gallon of gas cost $2.82 in the Sunshine State, the highest they have been since November 2014.

According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of gasoline is $2.81, an increase of 45 cents from a year ago.

AAA says gas prices are up 7-cents on average to $2.93, creeping ever closer to the $3 mark as we approach Memorial Day and the start of the summer travel season.

Huntsville- $2.57, up 0.9 cents per gallon from last week's $2.56.

Flint is up 11 cents per gallon at $2.89/gallon. "The latest round of figures from the EIA shows that gasoline demand is significantly higher than this time past year".

It added that it is giving the low-pressure formation a medium chance of developing into a stronger weather disturbance. The weather activity could give an early start to the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season, which begins June 1.


Despite the higher pump prices, AAA predicts more than more than 41.5 million Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend, with 36.6 million of that number traveling by auto.

On the plus side, AAA says airfares are down seven percent as compared to last Memorial Day, with an average price of $168 for a round-trip flight along the top 40 domestic routes and auto rental prices are down 11 percent.

A spokesperson for AAA Colorado said as of Sunday, the Stinker Sinclair location at 7268 S. Tuscon Way in Englewood, had the cheapest gas in the area at $2.49 a gallon.
