But the publisher still managed to turn some heads when they announced that Avalanche Studios were the developers alongside id Software. Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland similar to Mad Max, it had superlative shooting mechanics and great visuals that hold up even today though it ended on a massive cliffhanger. That said, I'm wondering if they'll be sticking to the same game engine or switching it out to the IDTech 6 engine that powered DOOM (2016), and Wolfenstein II games. And that is not a bad thing.

The asteroid mentioned in the trailer has resulted in Earth's population being reduced by 80 percent, and the "Authority" organization has attempted to take control. Humanity has become tribal, and gangs rule territories by force. In the game you play as Walker, the last Ranger, on his quest to topple an evil regime.

It's basically Mad Max in all but name, including an open world map and vehicular combat and racing.

In another passage of the interview, however, Willits confessed that Rage 2 was thought from the beginning as a collaborative project, featuring the "id-like first-person shooter action". He can also charge his weapons with these Nanotrites to make them much more powerful. Throughout the course of the game, he'll also learn to apply his Nanotrite abilities to his weapons, which will allow him to "unleash absolute hell on his foes". It does a brilliant job of showing off the game's open-world, it's traversal options from monster trucks to gyrocopters, and the weaponry, which includes guns, mechs and more. When timed correctly, Overdrive is more than enough to tip the scales in a tricky fight.

The landing page for the game gives very little extra information.it does show key art for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so it's likely that Switch owners will be left out at launch.
