"This man was prepared for struggle, he was ready for our officers to return in", Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez informed Miami radio station 610 WIOD.

The gunman took a flag from a pole in the rear of the complex, brought it into the hotel lobby, draped it over a counter, yelled rhetoric against President Donald Trump and fired a gun into the air - at the roof and chandeliers, Perez said.

One unidentified officer sustained an injury to his wrist, but he was not shot, according to authorities.

On Twitter, Eric Trump - President Trump's son and executive vice president of the Trump Organization - expressed a "huge thank you to the incredible men and women" of both police departments.

"We immediately were able to neutralize this threat", Mr. Perez said.

The Trump National Doral Golf Club was first established in 1962 in a western suburb of Miami by real estate developer Alfred Kaskel.

The Doral resort is one of 17 that Trump owns worldwide.

Despite this, the resorts do not seem to have benefitted from his presidency.

Until previous year, the World Golf Championship tournament had been at the resort since the 1960s.

Perez did not provide details on what the shooter was saying about Trump, who was at the White House at the time.
