Microsoft drops official technical support for older products on community forums

You may want to stick to it, but Microsoft will no longer offer you solutions or answers related to Windows 7.

In its latest move, Microsoft announced last weekend that its army of staffers actively contributing to Microsoft Answers won't provide support and assistance for the following products across different forums, starting next month. Microsft is discontinuing support for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 RT (so, Windows RT in general), among others. Users are invited to participate in Microsoft Band 2 topic. But there will be "no proactive reviews, monitoring, answering, or answer marking of questions", Microsoft said.

If you research a Windows or Microsoft product issue using your favorite search engine, you usually get Microsoft Answers results in the top ten listing. Microsoft is also stopping support for Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, Surface RT, Surface 2, Microsoft Band and Zune.

Both products have already been removed from Microsoft's mainstream support pipeline (Windows 7 RT 1 support ended in January of 2015, while 8.1 exited in January of this year.) Extended support for Windows 7 is slated to run until January of 2020, while Windows 8.1 will have extended support until 2023.

Lemar set to join Atletico Madrid from Monaco
Our daily blog will ensure you have all the latest updates throughout the week but we want you to get involved, too. But it's safe to say that our new favourite involves Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann .

Microsoft Band - this topic will be locked.

Some of our readers remain loyal users and fans of Windows 7, loathing anything to do with Windows 10. Also, the option for paid support from Microsoft is always there until the extended support ends. Therefore, it does not come as a surprise to see Microsoft assigning their staff to responding to questions for newer products that are still under full support.

The forum is a hit and miss for support topics, mostly miss, in my opinion.
