Improvements include a simplified "favorites" list that will pin certain friends to the top, an expanded detail set for what each friend is playing and where they are in the game (for instance, sitting on the main menu or facing off in deathmatch), as well as organisational changes, such as grouping friends by the game they're now playing or the party they're in.
Valve has released a beta for its all-new Steam chat with new features, including a revamped friend list and chat system. The gaming company just announced Steam Chat, which is now in beta for anyone to try.
There are a handful of other new quirks, too, like (finally!) a promised invisible mode and custom friend-request links you can email or send outside Steam.
Tencent’s We Game platform
The chat platform lets you compile a friends list (with features like favorites and group chats) and shows what game everyone is playing.
Within a group chat you have the option to add additional text channels, voice channels, member permissions. It's free. You don't have to chat like it's 2004. The company said that the "new UI framework" and "important architectural improvements under the hood" will allow it to improve aspects of the core Steam experience once the new Steam Chat makes its debut. We don't know what the company plans to update, but if the overhauls are as extensive as those made to Steam Chat, the platform-slash-marketplace could soon be pretty different from what we've grown accustomed to.
