In Democratic primaries - particularly three key House races in Virginia - the theme of this spring's primaries continued: Female candidates are winning at unprecedented rates and often by large margins. Jeff Flake, into retirement. Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker couldn't win the White House's support to run for re-election. Alabama Rep. Martha Roby was forced into a runoff.

"Mark Sanford has been very unhelpful to me in my campaign to MAGA", the president tweeted, using the initials for his campaign slogan "Make America Great Again". But Arrington made an issue of his criticism of the president, calling him a "Never Trumper".

Trump's post was made less than three hours before polls closed.

Tuesday afternoon, the President endorsed her bid for Congress in a Tweet criticizing Sanford. She has sought to brand Sanford, who labeled Trump's tariff policies as "an experiment with stupidity", as a NeverTrumper. "He is better off in Argentina", the president tweeted.

SC state Rep. Katie Arrington (R) led Sanford by 51 percent to 46 percent, with 81 percent of precincts reporting.

That was a reference to Sanford's surprise disappearance from the state as governor, which he later revealed was to continue his affair with an Argentine woman.

With his late entry into the race, Trump let Sanford know that has not gone unnoticed.

For her part, Arrington put out a campaign ad against Sanford during the campaign that said, "it's time for Mark Sanford to take a hike - for real this time". On the Republican side, Tarkanian (who is now running for the House instead of the Senate) will face off against state Sen. Tim Kaine in the fall. But he has accused the president of contributing to the coarsening of the national political discourse, and that turned the primary into a test of whether loyalty to Trump is more important to Republican voters than a lawmaker's record. He said he might not certify the election results. "And he has Stewart voters to thank for it". He is the second House Republican to lose a primary this election cycle. There is no Democratic primary for this race. Trump won the district in 2016 by a margin of 53% to 40%. Twice, they said yes.

He can win. Even Fake News CNN said the Trump impact was really big, much bigger than they ever thought possible.

United Nations Chief calls for investigation of Syria strikes
Since Russia intervened in support of the Syrian regime in 2015, the government has regained control of about half of the country. Six Syrian pro-regime fighters and at least three from HTS were killed in the fighting, which continued on Sunday.

Amodei has been in office since 2011 and represents a conservative northern Nevada district.Voters on Tuesday were also deciding inter-party races for lieutenant governor, secretary of state, treasurer and attorney general. Mark Sanford, who has held the seat since 2013, trails with 46 percent of the vote.

Two low-key primaries went exactly as expected Tuesday. In North Dakota, GOP Representative Kevin Cramer was declared the party's primary victor, setting him up to run against Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp.

Sanford's seat is likely to remain in Republican hands no matter the victor of Tuesday's primary.

Heller's state is Democrat-leaning and was narrowly won by Clinton in 2016, while Heitkamp's is dominated by Republicans and voted overwhelmingly for Trump.

The Senate landscape is becoming more settled Tuesday night as well.

Election nights are long - no matter what.

In the Democratic primary in the 1st District, Joe Cunningham has 62 percent to Toby Smith's 37 percent.
