Microsoft Snaps Up Flipgrid Video-Based Learning Platform

According to Flipgrid's website, it's mission is to "Empower learners of all ages to define their voices, share their voices, and respect the diverse voices of others". Beyond a shadow of doubt, this acquisition is Microsoft's latest attempt at boosting its educational offerings; and at the same time, spreading out its wings in order to blanket in more users. So that's basically all Flipgrid does. Megiddo also added that Flipgrid is presently employed by teachers, students, and parents in over 180 countries. The exact terms of the deal have not been revealed, CNBC reports, but the service will apparently be free. Now Microsoft will offer the service to schools for free, like it has done with Office 365 Education software, so customers who've purchased a subscription will receive a prorated refund. So he set up an early version of his threaded video chat system and asked the students to send in video responses to questions, and he replied in kind from a distance.

Flipgrid amplifies student's voice and supports student development of global empathy as they immerse themselves in each other's learning processes and perspectives.

One potential rub is that Flipgrid works well with the Chromebooks and Google services that now dominate the education market in the US and elsewhere.
