Sony looking for ‘solution’ to PS4 cross-play woes

Sony 'Confident' a Solution Will be Reached Regarding PS4 Cross-Play Backlash

Sony is "confident" it will develop cross-play solution

"We're hearing it. We're looking at a lot of the possibilities", Layden said, according to Eurogamer. While playing online games with different consoles isn't a traditional aspect of online gaming, other gaming companies like Microsoft and Nintendo are embracing it.

Ultimately, this statement doesn't really get us closer to Fortnite accounts that are truly cross-platform, and one has to wonder if Sony is just going to keep saying "we're listening" until the outrage blows over. The implication is that because of the sheer number of PS4 users, cross-play with other rival consoles is unnecessary.

Do you think Sony should relent and offer cross-play through Fortnite?

If you're a PS4 gamer, you can't play online with your Xbox friends.

Other features built into the Wear 2500 include support for NFC payments and voice assistants like Google Assistant or Alexa. The least powerful of the lot, the Snapdragon 429 , also offers a 25% improvement in performance over its predecessor.

The backlash over blocking console cross-play have made these last few weeks a bit hard for Sony. "You can imagine that the circumstances around [crossplay and third-party accounts] affect a lot more than just one game". This makes it convenient for Xbox to push the cross-platform narrative and spotlight the resilient Sony in the process, in a bid to capture some market share from disgruntled fans. "I'm confident we'll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business", said Shawn Layden.

At the conference a reporter from Eurogamer asked Layden about the cross-play issue.

To recap, the Fortnite PS4 issue gained steam when Fortnite launched on the Nintendo Switch. While it's always been possible for PS4, PC, Mac, iOS and Android players to compete and collaborate, Sony's device has always notably excluded Nintendo and Microsoft devices. It falls in with the Sony's previous "We are listening" comment.

For the most part, Sony has stayed quiet about the situation. We need to cling to statements that indicate Sony is considering possibilities, and hold them accountable to those statements as often as we can. Sony does have tens of millions of people who primarily play on PlayStation 4 even if those consumers also spend money elsewhere, but Layden wants to ensure they continue buying items like the Battle Pass through PlayStation Network.
