The fourth model to carry the Longtail name represents the fastest, most powerful and most track-focused Sports Series auto in McLaren's lineup.
McLaren pulled the covers off of its 600LT late June, a new limited-production version of its entry-level supercar with more horsepower, less weight but, contrary to its name, no long tail.
Mechanically, the McLaren 600LT is powered by a twin-turbocharged, 3.8-litre V8 engine that produces a peak power of 600PS (592bhp), and maximum torque of 620Nm (457lb ft).
Like those models, the 600LT gets more of everything to deliver more driver engagement and track-focused dynamics. Based on the 570S Coupé, the new model is 74 mm longer, with an extended front splitter, lengthened rear diffuser and fixed rear wing.
Weight-saving measures (including new carbon-fibre bodywork) see the 600LT tip the scales at 96 kg lighter than the 570S Coupé, while the brand says top-exit exhausts ensure that the new LT model has a "distinct aesthetic appearance that identifies it as something particularly special".

Other defendants listed in the claim include Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the Atlantic record label and Amy Padge, Ed's co-writer. Ed Sheeran performs on the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm in Somerset during the Glastonbury Festival in Britain, June 25, 2017.
While it make look familiar to fans of the Woking-based marque, the new 600LT has gone through quite a lot of changes to shave off a whopping 211.6 pounds (95.98 kilograms) and enable a remarkable dry weight of just 2,749.2 lbs (1,247 kg). "The 675LT resurrected the revered name, creating the purest distillation of the sheer driving pleasure embodied by all McLaren cars", said Mike Flewitt, McLaren CEO in a statement.
But this auto is not only about the numbers - it's also about the feel, about precise feedback and instant response, so it has the forged aluminium double-wishbone suspension and lightweight brakes from the second-generation Super Series, special track-focused Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres; quicker steering; sharpened responses from the throttle and brake pedals and significantly firmer engine mounts. The McLaren 600LT - for Longtail - is much, much more than a reworked 570S.
Customers can further customize the vehicle by adding the super-lightweight carbon fiber seats developed for the McLaren Senna. McLaren Special Operations (MSO) offers a range of features that includes a carbon fibre roof and cantrails and vented carbon fibre front fenders.
McLaren's super limited run of the 600LT kicks off in October and production will last for less than a year. Its UK price is £185,500 with taxes, a figure that includes the Pure McLaren Road Owner Track Day experience with driver training.
