Trump's national security advisor John Bolton visited Moscow on Wednesday to meet Putin and discuss the details of the encounter between the two leaders, set to take place in a third country.

The announcement followed a meeting between President Putin and US National Security Adviser John Bolton, who was in Moscow this week to lay the groundwork for the summit. They are also concerned that Trump is being a bit too friendly with Putin.

I know it makes no difference to Trump's base, and they believe that the intelligence community is a malicious conspiracy against the Donald, but every American intel agency agrees that Russian Federation meddled in the elections. I think we'll be talking about many other subjects.

Last summer, when Trump met with Putin on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Germany, he briefly agreed to a U.S.

Trump and Putin will meet July 16 against the backdrop of an ongoing special counsel probe into possible ties between the president's campaign and Russian officials.

In one of a series of tweets yesterday, the USA president wrote: "Russia continues to say they had nothing to do with meddling in our election".

The date falls after previously planned stops during a trip to Europe by Trump for a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit meeting July 11-12 in Brussels and a visit to Britain on July 13.

Relations between Washington and Moscow became the most strained since the end of the Cold War during the administration of President Barack Obama who imposed sanctions for Russia's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.

Moscow accused Britain of manipulating its allies, saying earlier Wednesday that "deception is perhaps the word of the day". Instead Britain has "embroiled their allies in the blatant campaign against Russian Federation ".

Trump and his Administration officials have said the main topics that will be discussed at the summit are foreign policy and Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election. Ukraine matters more to Russia, which wants its recognition of Crimea (Russia illegally annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014) as part of the Russian Federation, sanctions relief, and the Minsk accord to favor Russian interests over Kiev's.

During Wednesday's meeting with Bolton, Putin said U.S.

His latest comments have fuelled fears that his meeting with the Russian president in Helsinki could further drive a wedge between the USA and its European Union allies.

Bolton told reporters in Moscow on Wednesday he expected Russian interference in USA politics to be discussed at the summit. That ended with Trump shifting his tone on Kim and agreeing to suspend US military drills, with only a reaffirming of past pledges to stop nuclear testing on Pyongyang's part. He is willing to accept Putin's denials, despite what the intelligence community has told him, because he wants to believe that the entire Russian Federation story - from meddling through collusion - is, well, trumped up. "I believe that to a great extent this is the result of a bitter internal political struggle in the U.S.".

It is unclear what the White House hopes to get out of the meeting beyond a better relationship with Moscow.

The talks will see the two leaders discuss "the current state and prospects for development of Russian-US relations", according to the release. "The Russian 'hoax" was that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia - it never did!" He said, "getting along with Russian Federation and with China and with everybody is a very good thing".

"It's something that I think both feel will contribute to improvements in the US-Russia bilateral relationship and in stability around the world".

The Kremlin had said earlier that the Russia-US summit would take place in the Finnish capital on July 16.
