This is Microsoft Surface Go

Microsoft Surface affordable tablet passes the FCC

Microsoft’s $399 Surface Go is announced at last

The Surface Go basically looks like a smaller version of the Surface Pro 3.

For normal home consumers, Surface Go will ship with the much-despised "S Mode" of Windows 10 Home, but you can turn off that mode at no cost.

Preorders have started immediately after the announcement, and the shipping is scheduled for August.

As you'd expect, the Go also supports Microsoft's $90 Surface Pen, which is also sold separately. That is likely one reason the Surface Go is Intel-, not ARM-based for now, anyway. This is a 10-inch tablet with optional keyboard cover and stylus and it costs from $399. A new Surface Mobile Mouse is on the way too, but I don't have pricing for that at the time of writing.

Connectivity-wise, there's the Surface Connect port and USB Type-C 3.1, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack and MicroSDXC.

Evidence seems to be mounting for a new, less expensive Surface. The Type Cover's keys, similar in size to shrunken HP Mini netbooks of a decade ago, were comfortable and could be typed on with big adult fingers. That person claims that the new Surface will have a 10-inch display (which explains the need for a new Type Cover, as existing ones wouldn't fit it) outputting at 1800 x 1200 resolution. There have been reports recently that the company has developed a cheaper Surface tablet to take on the likes of the iPad.

Microsoft officials said learnings from the company's Surface 3 device were inspirational in devising the Surface Go. The USB-C port can be used for charging the tablet as well as connecting other USB-C devices.

Does Microsoft's Surface Go Tablet have the capability to disrupt the tablet market? Yeah, it should work well on a table or desk, but this is a portable machine - you don't always have a flat surface when on the go.

So Microsoft Malaysia has just announced Surface Go's availability for Malaysia on 2 August 2018, there's no local price revealed yet but in the U.S. the manufacturer's suggested retail price is just $399. It comes with 4GB RAM (configurable up to 8GB), 64GB of eMMC storage, and offers 9 hours of battery life. Windows 10 S is a pared-down version of Windows 10, which only allows apps to be installed from the built-in Microsoft Store. The list of versions coming includes a basic one with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage (processor model not mentioned), going up to 8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage, 4G LTE, and a Pentium Gold 4415Y processor.
