Massive Explosion Reported Near Cairo Airport

"Air traffic continues", Ministry spokesman Bassem Abdel Karim said in a statement. Sky News Arabic correspondent Faisal bin Huraiz shared an eyewitness video showing an explosion in the direction of what appeared to be Cairo International Airport.

The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. local time on Thursday when an explosion was heard across the eastern part of the capital.

Only 12 injuries were reported so far; the injured were immediately transferred to the nearest hospital to receive immediate treatment.

The second baseman also stole 39 bases for Lexington and was a South Atlantic League mid-season and postseason All-Star. He's been an above-average hitter for more than a decade and will finally have an All-Star Game on his resume.

While flights have not been affected, some witnesses described the vehicle traffic in and out of the airport as a "nightmare". According to Reuters, officials had suspended all flights from the airport while they investigate the cause of the blast, but Egyptian member of parliament Mustafa Bakri later wrote on Twitter that normal operations had resumed.

Egyptian state television is reporting that a fire raging as a result of the explosion had been brought under control. Cairo International was the scene of a terrorist attack in 2015 when a passenger smuggled a bomb on to Metrojet Flight 9268.

This is a breaking story.
