Chelsea tonight confirmed the club record £71 million signing of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao.

Chelsea wrapped up a deal for Spain worldwide Kepa Arrizabalaga on Wednesday night.

On Kovacic, they said: "Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC have agreed to the transfer of player Mateo Kovacic for the next season, until June 30, 2019".

With Thibaut Courtois seemingly on his way out of Stamford Bridge ahead of his move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, Chelsea have taken their first steps towards securing his replacement.

Personal terms will now be discussed and if true, Kepa will be in London tomorrow for a medical and so on.

Just weeks after Liverpool broke the record transfer fee for a goalkeeper in a deal worth up to 72.5 million euros for Brazilian worldwide Alisson Becker, the inexperienced Kepa, 23, now inherits the title of the world's most expensive goalkeeper.

In total he has played 141 official games with the club, and won three Champions Leagues, one League, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups and one Spanish Super Cup.

"It's an accumulation of things, and I am very glad Chelsea has chose to trust me and to take me in as well".

Real Madrid announced in its statement Courtois will sign a six-year contract, and the club will present him to its fans Thursday at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

AS notes that a lawyer representing Kepa is expected to go to La Liga's offices on Wednesday morning and deposit the €80m buyout fee that will formally release him from his Bilbao contract.

"Athletic thanks the player for his contribution during his time in our Club". In his 154 appearances under Mourinho, Hiddink and Conte, the new Madrid signing also managed to win an FA Cup and EFL Cup title.

Chelsea have made Kepa their number one target to replace Thibaut Courtois.

Kovacic will join Chelsea on loan until June 30, 2019 as part of the deal, with the Croatia global spending a season away from the club he joined from Inter Milan in 2015.
