Watch: Two Hamas Terrorists Dead as Israel Returns Fire from Gaza

Hamas confirms deaths of 2 members from Israeli tank fire

In a subsequent statement, Hamas held Israel responsible for the death of the two fighters, with group spokesman Fawzi Barhoum warning Israel that it would "pay the price" for Tuesday's attack.

The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, issued a statement denouncing the Israeli assassination of two of its fighters, in northern Gaza, and holding Israel accountable for any future escalation. "An IDF tank targeted the post from which the shots were fired", the military said.

Following a meeting with other resistance factions, al-Masri told reporters that the Palestinian resistance would "not allow Israel to breach the terms of the truce".

However, Israeli media reported that an Israeli force came under fire near the borderline in northern Gaza.

On Monday, Israel responded to the launching of flaming balloons from Gaza into southern Israel by launching an airstrike, injuring two Gazans. It then cuts to footage of a shell hitting the post and an explosion.

More than 160 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces - most during weekly protests at which thousands of Palestinians have expressed their support for the declared right of Palestinian refugees to return to their ancestral homes in what is now Israel. Hamas denies this. Palestinians militants have also fired rockets into Israel and the Israeli military has carried out dozens of air strikes in the enclave.

Tensions have soared since Hamas launched mass protests along the border in March. Israel has said they only opened fire in self-defence or on people trying to infiltrate its territory.
