Tottenham goalkeeper Lloris fined for drunk driving

World Cup winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will remain Tottenham Hotspur's captain when he returns from injury despite being convicted of drink driving, manager Mauricio Pochettino said today. He said he was guilty of this situation and it's irresponsible.

The Argentine boss confirmed Lloris would continue in the captain's role and again insisted the goalkeeper regrets the incident after he was banned from driving for 20 months on Wednesday and fined £50k.

"The reality is they have a very good team and they have very good players", Pochettino said. Only we need to try, that he understands, and how he understands that it was a mistake.

"He's punishing himself. But of course we're not God, that we can judge people".

"He's the first [to accept it was a mistake], he told me, "Gaffer, it's a massive lesson for me".

"Dele Alli hopes to be fit for the Londoners after missing England's game with Switzerland and although Harry Kane was quiet against Spain he is still the go to man for his club".

Lloris picked up his thigh problem in the 3-0 win at Old Trafford and Pochettino revealed he will be out for several weeks, starting with Liverpool's visit to Wembley tomorrow.

Dele Alli will miss Tottenham's home clash with Liverpool on Saturday after he picked up a hamstring injury on global duty.

"It's our fifth season at Tottenham and if someone knows him really well I think we do".

Forward Heung-min Son is available, but unlikely to play a big part after participating in the Asian Games, immediately followed by this worldwide break.

Pochettino rejected suggestions Kane is tired, stating it is only a matter of time before the Tottenham striker is back to his goalscoring best.

I think it is a situation that is under control I think but we respect all opinion and maybe some opinions are different to us.
