Browns to release WR Josh Gordon

The team had stuck with Gordon, 27, through all his personal troubles over a period of six years but will part ways with him on Monday officially.

The Browns selected Gordon in the second round of the 2012 supplemental draft and he led the National Football League in receiving yardage in 2013 despite playing in 14 games but he's served 56 games of suspensions while playing in just 41 games.

About five hours later, the team released this statement from John Dorsey: "This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday".

The Browns will release troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon.

He also did not show up on time according to NFL Network.

In July, Dorsey said the Browns remained "100 percent committed" to Gordon if he remained committed to the organization after announcing he would not be present in Berea for the start of training camp because of off-the-field issues.

Gordon, who returned in December from a three-year suspension for multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy, was expected to play a key role on a new-look Browns offense this fall.

Josh Gordon will soon be a free agent.

However, after that Pro Bowl season, Gordon was suspended for 44 consecutive games dating back to the final week of the 2014 season, which was a team ban for reportedly missing a walk-through prior to a trip to Baltimore to play the Ravens. Through six seasons, Gordon appeared in 41 games, hauling in 130 catches for 3,106 yards and 16 touchdowns. He missed the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons before returning previous year.

"I know I'm going to be here playing football, and anything outside of these walls, I think I have the right people in place to help me in any way in which I need them to help me", Gordon told Browns Zone in late August.
