ISIS jihadists said via their propaganda mouthpiece Amaq that "Islamic State fighters attacked a gathering of Iranian forces" in Ahvaz. It was not immediately clear if either group had organized the violence.

Iranian ethnic Arab group Ahvaz National Resistance and Daesh both claimed responsibility for the rare assault in the southwestern city of Ahvaz, but Iranian officials are blaming "a foreign regime" backed by the United States.

A claim of responsibility by the extremist group Islamic State (IS), which also took responsibility for the 2017 twin attacks on the Iranian parliament and the mausoleum of Islamic republic founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, was dismissed by a military spokesman.

Qassemi said the British diplomat condemned the attack and said that he would accordingly relay Iran's message of protest to the authorities in London.

"The United States condemns any terrorist attack anywhere, period. We've always stood by that", Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, told CNN.

CNN can not verify the authenticity of the video, which Amaq said it "obtained" and published on Sunday, a day after the attack that killed 29 people and wounded 70 others.
