Petrol Price Crosses 90 Rupees In Mumbai, Cheapest In Delhi Among Metros

Mumbai and Pune both now have petrol selling at more than Rs 90/litre

Providing no respite to consumers, the prices of petrol and diesel continued to scale new heights on Monday.

Fuel prices continue to soar across the country, pushing the petrol price in Mumbai today past the Rs 90 per litre mark.

Petrol and diesel prices in the financial capital stood at Rs 90.08 per litre and Rs 78.58 per litre, respectively. A litre of petrol in Mumbai costs Rs 90.08, while the price in Delhi is Rs 82.72.

Delhi is one of the cities that has the cheapest fuel rates because of lower taxes. Mumbai, on the other hand, has the highest sales tax or VAT.

Notably, the fuel price has been witnessing a steep rise since the past few weeks. On Sunday, Kolkata again reached its all-time high price of diesel at Rs 75.82 as recorded on September 11.

A combination of a dip in the value of rupee against the dollar and rise in crude oil prices has led to a spike in fuel prices since mid-August.

According to oil companies, refinery gate price of petrol, without considering any central or state tax and dealer's commission, is Rs 42.04 per litre.

The Centre now levies an excise duty of Rs 19.48/litre on petrol and Rs 15.33 per litre on diesel.

Dealer's commission on petrol now is Rs 3.66 per litre and that on diesel is Rs 2.52.
