Rob Gronkowski threatened to retire after almost being traded to Lions

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady leads the team out prior to the game between the New England Patriots and the Jacksonville Jaguars

Report: TE Rob Gronkowski almost traded inside NFC North

For fans looking to catch the game on television for free, one option is a free trial of a TV streaming service, such as Fubo TV, Hulu Live, DirecTV Now, PlayStation Vue, Sling TV or YouTube TV - all of which offer some National Football League games, depending on the channels they serve.

The reasoning behind why the Patriots wanted to trade away their star tight end most likely stemmed from Bill Belichick's disdain for Gronk's off the field actions, or the simple thought that they were maximizing their larges asset, just before the fall.

The five-time Pro Bowler met with the Pats and the two sides agreed to a plan that would allow Gronkowski to continue to play for the team and talks with the Lions were dropped. However, Gronkowski learned about the proposed trade and threatened to retire if was dealt to Detroit despite the Lions' significant New England connections with GM Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia. New England would take Georgia products Sony Michel and Isaiah Wynn.

The Packers go on the road to face Gronkowski and the Patriots in November.

The receiver tweaked his hamstring before he was traded, and Rapoport said the team is preparing for Sunday's game for both scenarios involving Gordon.

Gordon's one catch this season was a 17-yard game-tying touchdown in Cleveland's Week 1 tie against the Steelers.
