Chennai: A Dubai-bound Air India flight with 136 passengers on board hit the compound wall at the Trichy airport in Tamil Nadu on Thursday night. The plane had 130 passengers and six crew members on board. However, airline officials said they do not have much information on which part of the aircraft had hit the antenna on ground or the damage to the aircraft. An alternate flight was arranged to take the passengers to Dubai. NDTV delivers reliable information across all platforms: TV, Internet and Mobile.
Hurtling down the Trichy airport runway at 250 kilometres per hour, an Air India Express Boeing 737-800 struck poles at the end of the runway, rammed into the perimeter wall but still managed to fly.
The plane was then diverted to Mumbai, where it landed safely - although the aircraft sustained some damage. However, they were asked to divert to Mumbai anyway as a precaution, NDTV reported.

Up next for the Red Sox is the ALCS, where they'll face the defending-champion Astros starting Saturday night in Boston. If Price continues to look more comfortable in a relief role, leave him there, and let Eduardo Rodriguez start Game 4.
Though the pilot in command "reported that the aircraft systems were operating normally, " there was a decision to divert the jet to Mumbai as a "precautionary measure". "No one suffered any injuries", it added.
"The pilot in command, Captain D Ganesh Babu, has a flying experience on the B737 aircraft of 3,600 hours, including about 500 hours as commander".
Air India has taken the pilot and co-pilot off duties pending an investigation and the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation has been informed of the incident, the airline tweeted. "The matter has been duly reported to the DGCA and the airline is fully cooperating with the investigation", the airline said.
