Ford GT Carbon Series: Losing Weight So You Don't Have To

The Ford GT Carbon Series Is An Angry Lightweight Special

Meet the kerb-unfriendly Ford GT Carbon Edition

It's the 2019 Ford GT Carbon Series, and it's the lightest version of this GT model.

Instead, the Carbon Series equips your Ford GT with carbon-fiber wheels, titanium lug nuts and a titanium exhaust as standard. Many have called the GT something of a porker with a dry weight of 3,054 pounds, making any weight elimination crucial, but this isn't just any weight the Carbon Series sheds: It's mostly unsprung weight. That's mainly because the Carbon Series retains the GT's radio and air conditioning, both of which are eliminated in the Competition. It also loses cupholders and driver's side seat storage bin. "It is yet another example of how we can bring to life our Le Mans-winning supercar in new and exciting ways so our customer can share in that magical legacy". The Carbon Series also features a unique seat pattern with silver stitching that is repeated on the steering wheel as well as clear anodised paddle shifters and a unique badge for the instrument panel. This comes by way of two exposed carbon fibre stripes with matching A-pillars and lower body panels and, of course, those gloss carbon fibre wheels.

Inside, the auto sports a Carbon Series badge on the instrument panel, a unique seat pattern, silver stitching on the seats and steering wheel, clear anodized paddle shifters, and matte carbon fiber for the sills, air register pods, and center console.

USA plans more China tariffs if Trump-Xi meeting fails
Bloomberg Economics estimates that the drag on 2019 GDP growth could be about 1.5 percentage points assuming a tariff rate of 25 per cent on all Chinese imports.

Those opting for this variant of the GT can go for one of four optional accent colors - silver, orange, red or blue - on the mirror caps, center stripe, and calipers. "So we developed the Carbon Series to satisfy that need, while providing a distinct look", said Lance Mosley, marketing manager at Ford Performance.

Applications for those hoping to buy a Ford GT will reopen on November 8 and run for 30 days.

The GT Carbon Series will account for one of the seven GTs Ford will build each week going forward.
