‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Earns Record-Breaking $725 Million Opening Weekend

Red Dead Redemption 2 raked in over $725 million in worldwide retail sell-through (sales by retailers to customers) in its first three days, Rockstar Games revealed on Tuesday, making it the biggest entertainment launch of 2018.

Rockstar Games is proud to announce that the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2 has achieved the single-biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment*. This means the game is close to the seven-figure revenue generation it saw in the first three days of the company's release of Grand Theft Auto V (via EuroGamer).

In the meantime, Red Dead Redemption 2 is proving to be a massive success for Rockstar Games, something that was intuited months before the official release of the title. Through its first three days the western brought in a whopping $725 million.

The game is also now the highest ever scored game on the PlayStation 4, with an average score of 97 on Metacritic, and the same on Xbox One.

In the game, you play as Arthur Morgan - an outlaw associated with the infamous Dutch van der Linde gang, who are on the run from the law after a boat heist that went horribly wrong.

But the role of Maurizio Sarri's assistant in provoking the situation was deemed by the FA to merit a charge of improper conduct. Speaking last week ahead of the win at Burnley, Sarri said: 'I was there when Marco spoke to Mr Mourinho.

There was never any doubt that Red Dead Redemption 2 was going to be a best selling title.

"The record-setting launch underscores how video games continue to steal market share away from other forms of media", O'Shea said in an email.

Red Dead Redemption 2 offers a vast world to explore with more than 60 hours of content.

Rockstar's blockbuster is the biggest entertainment launch this year, but fell short of GTA V's $1 billion launch haul.
