The eCOPO's pair of BorgWarner motor assemblies and 800-volt battery system replace the Camaro's traditional gasoline engine, generating a combined 600 pound-feet of torque and 700 horsepower. Chevy says that this auto "suggests" a potential new avenue for the Chevy crate engine and performance parts portfolio, however, there is no indication that the eCOPO concept will enter normal production. "The original COPO Camaro program was all about pushing the envelope, and this concept is an exploration with the very same spirit". Just a few days after Ford allegedly teased an electric Mustang, Chevrolet has unveiled an all-electric version of its Mustang-rival Camaro at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
That's right. The eCOPO Camaro is still built for the drag strip, but as the name suggests, it's fully electric. For optimal weight distribution (56 percent to the rear axle) two modules are housed in the rear seats, in the Luggage compartment.
Hyundai and Kia reveal solar roof cars
A 100W solar panel, given typical summer noontime levels of sunshine, could deliver 100 Wh of energy an hour, Hyundai points out. The companies are launching three solar charging systems for several types of vehicles, including hybrid and battery electric.
The most unique feature is probably the 800-volt based battery pack which is about twice the overall voltage seen in Chevy Volt, Tesla Cars, or Chevy Bolt EV. It was the first to offer a long-range, affordable electric vehicle in the Bolt, and its Volt plug-in hybrid continues to offer one of the longest all-electric ranges of any plug-in hybrid. Additionally, the roll cage in the trunk area has been expanded to provide additional protection for the rear-mounted modules. The resulting 56-percent rear weight bias helps the auto launch more efficiently. That means it should work with "just about any" of the automaker's transmissions. The power the electric motor generates goes through a conventional race-prepped turbo 400 automatic transmission that sends torque to a solid rear axle used in the production COPO Camaro racing cars. "We're not there yet, but it's something we're exploring", says O'Blenes.
Chevrolet celebrates the 50th anniversary of the COPO Camaro at the 2018 SEMA Show, with the 2019 COPO Camaro race vehicle, a vintage 1969 COPO Camaro and the electrified eCOPO Concept. This extra-pumped battery pack will definitely enable faster charging which could serve as a crucial feature for drag racing.
