Arsenal boss Emery upset for Welbeck after 'big injury'

Arsenal have won 12 and drew two of their past 14 matches in all competitions

Next up for Arsenal in the Premier League is a game against Wolves at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Danny Welbeck was carried off on a stretcher after suffering a potentially serious lower-leg injury during Arsenal's Europa League game against Sporting Lisbon on Thursday.

But it was Welbeck's injury just before the half hour mark that was the main talking point from a largely forgettable Emirates Stadium encounter.

After losing their opening two matches of the season, Arsenal have won 12 and drawn three of their 15 games in all competitions since, including a run of 11 straight victories between August and October.

"I think Danny was working well and was playing a good match".

The Swiss veteran joins Mohamed Elneny and Konstantinos Mavropanos on the treatment table while Laurent Koscielny and Emile Smith Rowe are also doubtful.

Welbeck sustained the injury when landing heavily on his ankle after challenging for a header in the 30th minute.

Welbeck had to be stretchered off with oxygen in the Europa League tie, as teammates looked on in horror.

However, the former Manchester United striker - dubbed by the Portuguese sportspages the "Welbeck Express" such was his all-round powerful display in Lisbon 14 days previously - suffered what looked to be a serious injury in the 25th minute.

And while Nelson may not be a ready-made replacement for Welbeck, Emery says he is keeping a keen eye on his progress.

The Gunners dominated the game for long spell but were held to a 0-0 draw by the visitors who put up a disciplined performance at the back.

Keown said: "He is the closest thing to Thierry Henry that I have seen since he left the club, he really is that good".
