Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu in First 'Pokémon Detective Pikachu' Trailer

You need to see it to believe it, but the first trailer for the live-action Pokemon movie, Detective Pikachu, has arrived.

As the name of the move suggests, the movie is based around Pokemon's most recognisable figure, Pikachu.

For the unfamiliar, two years ago Youtuber Tealhollow1 overlaid lines from Danny DeVito in the Great Detective Pikachu game trailer.

He was the Merc with a mouth; now Ryan Reynolds is the Pokémon with an attitude. Starring alongside Ryan Reynolds will be Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) as Tim, Kathryn Newton (Lady Bird, HBO's Big Little Lies) as a junior reporter named Lucy, and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe (Inception, The Last Samurai) as Lt. Yoshida. Some noted - jokingly - that he could assume the role of other Pokemon that appeared in the trailer such as Jigglypuff and Mr. Mime.

Johnson, pass rush positive signs from Cardinals’ latest loss
The Kansas City Chiefs will be looking for their fourth-straight victory on Sunday when the team hosts the Arizona Cardinals . The only game in which the defense played almost as well was Cincinnati, when the Chiefs allowed 239 yards in a 45-10 rout.

Reynolds commented on the surprise release on Twitter, saying, "I think we all knew I'd wind up as a miniature detective repeatedly saying the same two words". "Just didn't think it'd be this soon".

Detective Pikachu is slated for release in May 2019.

Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery.
