McGinley baffled by McIlroy's European Tour snub

Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari

Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari have been dubbed collectively as Moliwood thanks to their blossoming bromance

"I am always going to want to play the Ryder Cup, so if anything, if that does happen so be it and I will try and make the Ryder Cup team the year ago".

McIlroy has only two on his schedule and may miss the Irish Open, which he has hosted for the last four years.

"Everyone has to do what's best for them, and for me next year, I'm trying to do what's best for me to help get back to the best player in the world and try to win majors again". I've played very consistently. It is good for the European Tour because they have events to shine. While giving up membership in a non-Ryder Cup year does not impact his playing status, new rules state that giving up membership makes you ineligible to be a captain or vice captain in the future.

Including this week's World Tour Championship, McIlroy will have only played six European Tour-only tournaments in 2018, but it was enough to keep his card for this season. McIlroy has been a keen supporter of the Euro Tour's former flagship event, taking the title in 2014. I have lived a dream year and I still van't believe it.

Sky Sports pundit Paul McGinley said ahead of the DP World Tour Championship that the decision was "very disappointing" and "hard to understand", but McIlroy says he is not fazed with the negative reaction he is getting.

This is the last event of the season, the conclusion of the Race to Dubai series, and the last chance that fans of the Tour will get to see the best the continent has to offer in action in 2018.

9 killed as California wildfires spread
Studies have said wildfires often start due to extremely dry conditions, such as droughts that are spurred by climate change . Two wildfires also continued to wreak havoc in southern California, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee.

The European Tour responded to the PGA Championship's new May date by switching its BMW PGA Championship to September from its old date in May.

"In Ireland I was doing okay until I made a triple bogey on the second hole in the final round".

"I guess my thing is that I want to play against the strongest fields week-in and week-out, and for the most part of the season that is in America, " McIlroy said. Justin Rose may not be here, but Xander Schauffele - who can curiously still win the Race to Dubai despite only teeing up once on European soil - is, and so are the likes of Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia and Patrick Reed. He could regain his membership in 2020 - and be eligible for the Ryder Cup - by fulfilling the four-event requirement.

"It is a big shift but I think it is good for a lot of reasons".

The more interesting part for me is that with McIlroy now skipping the Middle East swing and focusing exclusively on the PGA Tour from January-August, you sort of have the makings of an unofficial world tour.

A rule passed by the European Tour, and enacted for the 2018 season, says that a player can not be a European Ryder Cup team captain or vice captain if they "fail to fulfill their minimum event obligation in any season".
