From the present moment in time, a journey backwards through Elton's defining career moments takes us all the way back to him receiving his grandmother's piano as a 4-year-old boy.

The advert, called Boy and the Piano, features Sir Elton singing Your Song, which was reprised by Ellie Goulding for the firm's festive offering eight years ago.

John Lewis have finally launched this year's Christmas advert starring national treasure Sir Elton John -after dropping a major clue yesterday by changing their store name to 'John'.

There's an especially striking scene showing the flamboyant star performing at Wembley Stadium.

John Lewis, which has a store at York's Vangard centre, say the new advert shows just how much difference a Christmas present can make. For now you can view it via one of John Lewis' partners.

'It's been a lovely opportunity for me to reflect on my life in music and the incredible journey I have been on, and how first playing my Grandmother's piano marks the moment when music came into my life'.

The advert aims to highlight how some gifts are more than just a gift.

The TV ad was shared by staff before it officially airs on TV tonight at 9.15pm on ITV.

This year's John Lewis advert reveals how one gift inspired and influenced the course of a little boy's life.

"The John Lewis Christmas campaign is an iconic part of Christmas now and has had so many warm memories and associations for us, with all of our Christmases, so to be asked to be part of that was a huge honour".

John Lewis's Christmas advert has become a staple of the festive season, with many pronouncing the start of celebrations when they see it. The store is home to an experiential space where customers can explore the dressing room, recording studio and living room sets from the ad, plus try on some of his famous costumes or even have a go on the piano.
