Former Chiefs QB Alex Smith out for season with Redskins after injury

The Redskins were in the market for a quarterback because Smith went down with a gruesome injury during Washington's 23-21 loss to the Texans on Sunday.

The Washington Redskins have signed free agent quarterback Mark Sanchez to back up Colt McCoy, according to multiple reports. Colt McCoy is slated to start for Washington the rest of the way.

The Washington Redskins reportedly brought in Sanchez along with Kellen Clemens, T.J. Yates, EJ Manuel and Josh Johnson.

McCoy moves from the backup role to starter for a playoff-bound team after the injury suffered by Alex Smith.

Sub found after disappearing a year ago with 44 aboard
Aguad could not say if the submarine could be recovered, but said the government did not have the means to extract the submarine . He said they were notified last Thursday night that the company had reviewed all the maps it had and found the point of interest.

Sanchez has worked with several Redskins assistant coaches while with the New York Jets.

Given Sanchez's track record of epic failure with the Jets, one must wonder why the Redskins would want to recreate the system that led to a four-year barrage of interceptions and incompletions. Facing a short week before the Thanksgiving Day game against the NFC East-rival Cowboys, the priority is on someone who can quickly learn the offense. But none of this makes sense.

Sanchez served as the Chicago Bears' backup to Mitchell Trubisky last season and remained unsigned this year.
