Tua Tagovailoa and Kyler Murray split honors at College Football Awards

Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and Oklahoma's Kyler Murray split four college football year-end awards Thursday, setting up a showdown for Saturday night when they contend for the Heisman Trophy.

Tagovailoa is Alabama's second Walter Camp Award victor, joining running back Derrick Henry in 2015.

The Oklahoma Sooners and West Virginia Mountaineers in between plays at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on November 25, 2017 in Norman, Oklahoma.

Murray didn't go home empty-handed either.

On Thursday, OU's Kyler Murray was named The Associated Press College Football Player of the Year. Tagovailoa has thrown for 3,353 yards, 37 touchdowns to four interceptions and has completed almost 68 percent of his passes.

Buzzcocks singer Pete Shelley dies aged 63
Thorn called Shelley an "amazing songwriter", while Gaiman tweeted , "part of my youth dies with him". Shelley, whose real name was Peter Campbell McNeish, was born in the English town of Leigh in 1955.

Winning both the Walter Camp and Maxwell awards is an encouraging sign for Tagovailoa. The past four Maxwell winners and past five Walter Camp winners have all gone on to win the Heisman. The last Walter Camp victor to miss out on the Heisman was Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o.

The victor of the award will be announced Saturday in New York City. He is a finalist for the award with Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins and Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

"It's humbling and an honor to be named AP Player of the Year, to be mentioned in the same realm as a lot of great players, a lot of hall of famers", Murray said. He has also rushed for 892 yards and another 11 scores.

Murray is the first FBS player to enter bowl season averaging at least 300.0 passing yards (311.8) and at least 60.0 rushing yards (68.6) per game. Kyler Murray transferred to Oklahoma after his freshman season, sat out a season per transfer rules and then backed up Mayfield. "All the hard work with my teammates has really paid off".
