State officials investigate potential election fraud in North Carolina; emergency hearing possible

It also didn't certify the results of the Bladen County Commissioner District 3 and in Robeson County the District Court 16B Seat 2 race between Republican Jack Moody and Democrat Vanessa Burton.

Entertaining the idea of a new election represents a significant change from last Thursday, when state GOP Chairman Robin Hayes issued a statement saying: 'Democrats are throwing everything, including the kitchen sink, at the wall to try and steal an election.' On Sunday, Hayes said there weren't enough questioned ballots to change the race's outcome, and the next day he accused a Democratic member of the state board of 'score-settling'.

State investigators are examining the activities of a political operative named Leslie McCrae Dowless, who ran a get-out-the-vote effort for the Harris campaign during the primary and general elections.

As for Harris, he insists he supports an investigation into voter fraud, but that it won't change the outcome.

Hayes went on to say the state Republican Party had no knowledge of and did not participate in the absentee ballot operations under investigation.

North Carolina Republicans and Democrats continue to fight over how to investigate the allegations of election fraud.

Dowless earned more than $23,000 working on six campaigns dating back to 2010, and in most of those races, Dowless' candidates received a disproportionately higher percentage of absentee votes in Bladen County. But state election officials have refused to certify the results while looking at potential absentee ballot irregularities in at least two counties.

There are also claims that incomplete ballots were collected and then filled out later, Cohen said.

In a filing made late Thursday night to the Federal Election Commission, the campaign of Republican Mark Harris of North Carolina, which has come under fire for possible absentee ballot fraud in the 2018 elections, listed a debt of $34,310 to an outside GOP consulting group which was tasked with absentee ballot work in Bladen County, the epicenter of fraud allegations in the race for North Carolina's Ninth Congressional District. Multiple people have admitted to WSOC's Joe Bruno that they were paid to serve as witnesses to and collect absentee mail-in ballots, which is illegal.

Woodhouse defended Harris, calling him a "good man" and said there's "no way he knew about this stuff and sanctioned it".

She said "any member-elect can object to the seating and the swearing-in of another member elect".

"The House Administration Committee will have full investigative authority to determine the victor of the election", Pelosi added. Why, for instance, did a lopsided share of absentee ballots that were counted favor Mr. Harris, while an overwhelming amount of ballots requested but never returned or counted came from areas likely to favor McCready? Dan Bishop said at a press conference with fellow Republicans, according to WRAL-TV in Raleigh. And with even Woodhouse conceding that a new election might be necessary, Harris's chances of occupying a seat in Congress are beginning, ever-so-gradually, to shrink.

"We are not ready to call for a new election yet", Woodhouse added.
