Vitaminwater is willing to pay $100,000 to anyone who can go an entire year without a smartphone.
The details are kind of vague, but the gist is that the Coca-Cola-owned brand is asking people to tell them on social media what they would do if they weren't tethered to their phone for every waking hour.
"This means you may not physically operate, caress, hug or otherwise be physically affectionate with anyone's smartphone". Anyone who can make it six months will earn $10,000.
As such, the company is weeding out the time-wasters by requiring all would-be entrants to publish a Tweet (or an Instagram post) explaining how they would spend their smartphone-free time if they are accepted into the contest.
The victor, which Vitaminwater will select, will be able to enter a contract for a smartphone-free year for a prize of $100,000, with $10,000 if you make it six months. The company today announced a new promotion that will award one person $100,000, provided they can go without using a smartphone or a tablet for 365 days.
Reports of bomb threats being investigated in Edmonton as well
Threats were also emailed to the Charlotte News & Observer and the Raleigh News & Observer newspapers in North Carolina. The all clear notice came less than two hours later, when people were allowed back in the building.
You have until January 8, 2019 to enter.
Several people said they'd learn to use paper maps again. "Make sure to include hashtags #nophoneforayear and #contest".
'This challenge would be a huge benefit for my family, ' someone else admitted. "I don't think I'll have enough time to swipe during this #contest", Matt Davenport said.
One man claimed he would do whatever it takes to win the money.
