Solskjaer has restored positivity to United, says Shaw

Solskjaer has managed to get the best out of a number of players, including Martial and a certain Paul Pogba. who was previously criticised for his attitude and application under Jose Mourinho.

Man. United: In November, United had a stretch of four games where it scored just four goals. The team suddenly look free.

A lot of talk about "knowing the club" has been aimed at Solskjaer in the last week as a barely veiled dig at Mourinho from Manchester United legends.

"For me, I would hope I can help or guide these players to maybe tip them over to thinking they want to stay at this club". It's definitely an overblown concept.

The Mail understands that Martial had flown back to France after being given - like the rest of the United team - a Christmas Eve reprieve.

"I think you can see from the outside how much he has changed things in such a short space of time", Shaw said.

But having turned down several opportunities to leave United during his 11 seasons as a player at Old Trafford, Solskjaer is keen to convince the current crop to follow suit.

"I know the club want them to sign, of course, because they are top-quality players", the Norwegian told United Kingdom newspapers.

It was announced on the morning of 18 December that the 55-year-old, who had overseen the club's worst start to a league season for 28 years, was no longer manager of Manchester United.

"I had loads of offers and possibilities to move but the manager [Alex Ferguson] sat me down and told me I was going to be an important part of his team, his squad and I was going to play enough games", Solskjaer said. The players will be trusted to express their talents under Solskjaer and show what they can do. Either way, United fans will be happier.

Sir Alex is expected to arrive at the club's training ground on Saturday, and if incentives are anything to go by, they don't come any bigger than this one.
