The Dolphins have interviewed Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.

McCarthy does have competition for the gig including former Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase, Baylor coach Matt Rhule, and former Colts and Lions coach Jim Caldwell.

A person familiar with the decision told Associated Press that Gase has agreed to replace Todd Bowles, who was sacked by the Jets after he went 24-40 in four seasons. He is set to become the first Jets head coach with previous National Football League head-coaching experience since Bill Parcells was hired by the franchise in 1997. Gase was just 23-25 but won five of six games against the Jets. Loggains previously worked under Gase in the same capacity with the Dolphins.

A source confirmed to The Athletic that the 40-year-old will become the 19th head coach in franchise history.

The Jets finished the 2018 season 4-12 and last in the AFC East. They likely are interested in him with the hope he could groom quarterback Sam Darnold the same way he did with Aaron Rodgers. The former first-round pick threw for 2,865 yards, 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 13 games during his rookie campaign.

Mike McCarthy will not coach in 2019.
