Looks like Kyler Murray could be headed to the National Football League draft

Kyler Murray could become the first athlete in history to be a first-round draft pick in both the MLB and NFL

That reality, as noted by Baseball America's Teddy Cahill at the time (Twitter link), made the selection of Murray one of the riskier draft picks in recent memory.

The Oakland Athletics expect Oklahoma standout Kyler Murray to choose football and enter the NFL draft prior to Sunday's deadline, reports Susan Slusser and Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Murray, an outfielder on the diamond, is due to report to spring training in Arizona on February 15 - nearly two weeks before the NFL's scouting combine takes place.

Kingsbury, of course, recently was named the new head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, who just happen to hold the first pick in the National Football League draft.

"When you win the Heisman Trophy, you're going to have a lot of information come to you to be looked at", Murray's agent Scott Boras said at the winter meetings. Should Murray go that route rather than pursuing his career as an outfielder in the Athletics organization, the A's would get his $4.66MM signing bonus back, but they wouldn't receive a compensatory selection in the 2019 draft. "I'd take him with the first pick in the draft if I could". I know he's signed up to play baseball, but he is a dominant football player.

US, China wrap up trade talks in Beijing
The US delegation, led by Deputy Trade Representative Jeffrey Gerrish, had been scheduled to end its visit on Tuesday. U.S. and Chinese officials discussed "ways to achieve fairness, reciprocity and balance in trade relations", the U.S.

Kyler Murray faces a very interesting decision this week. The quarterback class is seen as weak, which would give Murray a good chance to go higher than he might have in other years.

Murray was the first athlete in history to be selected to the Under Armour All-American game in both football and baseball.

Obviously, Kingsbury is now in Arizona, where the Cardinals own the first overall pick.

The Cardinals may have taken Josh Rosen at quarterback past year, but if Kingsbury believes in Murray that much, they should take him all the way and just trade Rosen.

Murray, a top 10 pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, is reportedly planning on declaring for the NFL Draft this weekend.
