At CES this year, theory has been turned into practice as LG has unveiled its SIGNATURE OLED TV R (model 65R9) rollable OLED TV. It's thin, but doesn't look particularly bendy at first glance. The base of the unit serves as a cabinet for its 4.2-channel 100-watt speakers, which are powered by deep learning AI as well as Dolby Vision audio. The former is used when you're watching TV while the latter might be used when you want to play music or use Mood Mode which displays small visual effects to match a nature-themed audio soundtrack like Rain, Stars or Snow.
The tech firm wrote: 'LG has created a TV with a display that seems to magically appear and disappear, a revolutionary innovation that seems to defy logic.
LG said it will release the premium TV in the Korean market in the second half of 2019 and target other markets later, without elaborating on the details of the price and timing, Yonhap news agency reported.
What is more, the OLED TV R has a functional mode that makes it act as a menu bar.
TVs have been commercially available for 90 years. Samsung says sales of TVs with screens above 75 inches have more than doubled in the United States over the past year.
As can be seen in the video, the screen itself can be suspended at different heights.
White Sox add another Manny Machado friend
And while many expect Manny Machado to make his decision relatively soon, we may have to wait a little longer for Bryce Harper . In the event that Machado does not sign with them, they would feel even more pressure to sign Harper.
The exhibit, which welcomes visitors to LG's CES 2019 booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center, features 76 concave, 72 convex and 112 flat 55-inch LG OLED screens to give an illusion of "infinity".
The set's picture processing and smart TV features are handled by LG's second generation Alpha 9 processor.
LG's 2019 TVs include the same built-in support for Amazon's Alexa smart assistant.
With Apple HomeKit support, customers will be able to control their LG TV using the Home app or by asking Siri.
"A rollable TV is basically an OLED TV and it doesn't add material costs, but changing the operating mechanism could add to the costs", LG Electronics President Kwon Bong-seok said at a press conference.
