Based on the hit Netflix horror starring Sandra Bullock, the social media challenge involves participants taking part in tasks while wearing a blindfold, emulating characters in the film who must evade sight-targeting monsters.
A blindfolded teenage driver in Utah crashed into another vehicle for obvious reasons on Monday, according to the Layton Police Department.
Videos of people trying to do things while blindfolded have attracted widespread attention online, and Netflix tweeted a warning about the challenge last week.
"Bird Box Challenge while driving.predictable result", the police tweeted on Friday, along with a photo of two mangled cars on Layton Parkway surrounded by snow-covered sidewalks. The Layton Police Department reported no injuries were associated with the crash.
The 17-year-old driver, her 16-year-old passenger and the occupants of the other auto all escaped serious injury.
The driver veered into oncoming traffic and struck a passenger auto.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the Layton, Utah, crash, a representative at the police department told CBS News.
As for the teen, she now faces reckless driving charges.
In the viral challenge, participants attempt to do ordinary things while blindfolded, which, again, is unsafe for obvious reasons.
All this despite the fact that Netflix have actually warned people to stop doing the Bird Box challenge.
