Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table after a poor first half of the season.

The father of PSG star Neymar has denied reports he's been in talks with Barcelona about a return to the Nou Camp.

United have 'contacted the agents of the football player to ask about their situation and make them see that they would be very interested in trying to undertake their signing, ' report Catalan based press Mundo Deportivo. Philippe Coutinho's confidence has taken a major hit at Barcelona just a year after arriving.

Barça spent months attempting to prise Coutinho away from Liverpool and eventually succeeded last January after a €140m agreement was struck.

He opened his goalscoring account in a 2-0 victory over Valencia in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg in February and finished the campaign strongly, scoring 10 goals and making six assists in his last 16 appearances of 2017-18.

Coutinho is unsurprisingly disappointed with how things are going.

Coutinho is said to have reached rock bottom with the Spanish side after he's fallen down the pecking order and is unhappy with his lack of minutes on the pitch.

Manchester United are said to be keeping close tabs on the former Real Madrid playmaker as Solskjaer look to bolster his team at the middle of the park. It has led to reports that he could be on his way out of Barca in the summer.

Manchester United could be set to give their squad two massive boosts, according to the latest transfer rumours. The Italian outlet has reported that Barcelona will "listen" to offers for Coutinho, but will likely not settle for less than the amount they paid to secure his transfer. So there seems no reason to buy an attacking player.
