Samsung’s new Galaxy M phones aim to take on cheap Chinese rivals

What's more the official page has a firm launch date for the new Galaxy M phone - January 28.

"This new series would have done well for Samsung in the offline channel, which contributes to around 80% of its handset sales in India..." Neil Shah, research director, devices and ecosystems at Counterpoint Research, however, expressed scepticism about Samsung's chances to break Xiaomi's hold on the ecommerce segment, saying the South Korean company is a year late with this series since the average selling prices online have moved beyond Rs 10,000.

Subsequent reports have suggested that the Galaxy M series will replace Samsung's Galaxy C, Galaxy J and Galaxy On series.

Cheap phones are a dime a dozen these days, especially in India, so it'll be interesting to see how Samsung will battle Xiaomi's new Redmi sub-brand and other competitors like Asus and RealMe to regain the top spot in the Indian smartphone market this year. The online marketplace has featured a microsite to confirm the presence of an Infinity-V Display on the upcoming lineup.

Going by the earlier reports and the new official press renders, which reveal the new M series will be featuring Samsung's new Infinity-V displays, which the Korean tech giant introduced during their Developer Conference past year. We expect the rumoured Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 to be the first pair of phones to launch as part of the new series. The M20 is also said to be the first Samsung phone to house a 5,000mAh battery.
