Chiefs tell Mahomes to stay away from basketball

Patrick Mahomes is just two years into the National Football League and he's already making a huge impact.

Mahomes - who obliterated the Chiefs' records for passing yards (5,097) and touchdowns (50) last season, becoming only the second QB to reach those plateaus in the same season (Peyton Manning, 2013) - took the advice in stride, according to Veach.

After video surfaced this week of the quarterback schooling defenders in a pickup game of basketball, the Chiefs brass put its foot down.

Looking for ways to protect the young quarterback, Kansas City general manager Brett Veach said Thursday he had called Mahomes' agent to relay a message: Knock it off. "No more basketball for Pat".

Philadelphia 76ers trade former top pick Markelle Fultz
In Orlando, Fultz has the opportunity to become their franchise point guard with no real competition for the role. Fultz being moved to another team now cements his place near, or at, the top of the all-time busts list.

You got to the NFL MVP getting buckets.

"We were laughing but ... the problem with Pat is he does everything 100 miles per hour and is so dang competitive", Veach said.

However, NFL players have done less in the offseason and sustained serious injuries, something Veach was quick to address with Mahomes' agent. As corner Richard Sherman points out, however, if there isn't a stipulation in the 23-year-old's contract against playing basketball, there is little recourse for the team if Mahomes were to decide to ignore the order.

Maybe Mahomes's next contract will explicitly say he can't shoot hoops anymore.
