A baby was left alone on a train when a father went onto the platform in order to smoke a cigarette.

The incident happened on 12 January, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority said.

Officials say the man started to panic and tried to get the train to stop.

The video, which was edited before it was released to the media, cuts to show the baby's caretaker walking toward the door at the back of the train vehicle.

Thankfully, that passenger stayed with the baby and managed to alert the driver and police.

An Ohio dad was temporarily separated from his baby after he left the child on a train that departed without him.

He and the other smoker are seen shouting and banging desperately on the doors before the train moves slowly off.

Before arriving at the Superior RTA Station, the train operator was informed that the train pulled away from the platform without the father on board.

The dad runs towards the train but doesn't make it on before the doors shut.
