At UEFA's Congress in Rome, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino sat yards away, Aleksander Ceferin took aim as the biggest issue in global football rumbled on.

The UEFA president said that despite the current "fairly remarkable position" of the UEFA in the world, the European governing football body must not idle and needs moving ahead.

Ceferin said UEFA would do "everything possible" to bring the 2030 World Cup to Europe and that European football's break- even rule known as Financial Fair Play (FFP) would be updated.

The 51-year-old Slovenian president of the European governing football body was a sole candidate running in the election, which was held during the 43rd Ordinary UEFA Congress in Italy's Rome.

Ceferin's first 2½ years in office completed the mandate of predecessor Michel Platini, who has banned by the Federation Internationale de Football Association ethics committee for financial irregularities.

"A clear message: while the two of us continue to lead our respective organisations, there will be no Super League".

But the firm stressed it has comprehensive insurance for the property, stock and equipment and for business interruption losses. More than £1 billion has been wiped off the value of Ocado after a fire savaged its warehouse in Hampshire on Tuesday night.

Ceferin says if clubs had split from the Champions League "they would have lost their status as great clubs in the hearts of the people. It can only be done if we work together, if we discuss, if we debate", he said.

"We will work hand-in-hand with our partner, the European Club Association, to design the club competitions of the future", Ceferin said.

"Now it is time to move to the second phase of this major European project, in consultation with the ECA, so that every European club can exploit its full development potential".

Ceferin excused Liverpool from attending as they were playing a Premier League match at West Ham on Monday, which ended 1-1 at London Stadium.

The other clubs, which include Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham, sent assistant coaches or other members of staff, including one that sent staff from their marketing department.

He also defended his record since taking over with his most notable achievement being the introduction of term limits for UEFA presidents, to a maximum of three four-year stints.
