During the annual Snapdragon Technology Summit, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated introduced the first commercial 5G mobile platform, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform. In addition, the Dallas-based carrier said it would work with Samsung to create a 5G "innovation zone" focused on manufacturing technology. The U.S.is only slightly behind South Korea in enabling 5G for consumers, as TechRadar reports that three South Korean operators launched their 5G networks for enterprise consumers in parts of major cities.
Apart from ushering the era of 5G in, the new 7nm process should also offer big improvements when it comes to battery life and performance.
Amon was then joined on stage by senior executives from global mobile operators AT&T, EE and Verizon, who discussed in more detail their 5G deployment plans. The company states that the new mobile platform features their fourth-generation, multi-core AI Engine with up to 3 times the AI performance compared to the Snapdragon 845. The device will use the chipmaker's Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem and antenna modules with integrated RF transceiver, RF front-end and antenna elements.
