Rory McIlroy surged up the Genesis Open leaderboard by completing a second-round of 8-under 63 on Saturday, while Tiger Woods looked to have done just enough to make the cut.

Thomas said he could barely feel his toes when he warmed up Saturday morning in temperatures in the low 40s and darkness as he set out to finish the second round. Just like that, he was tied for 12th as the leaders were just getting going.

Bad weather in southern California has restricted play during the tournament, with Woods still having 11 holes to play in his third round.

"I've managed to scramble well this week and I'm going to have to do that all day tomorrow", Scott said. 'Up early and start working on it and staying loose and staying ready.

He immediately dropped a shot at the fourth hole, his first of the day, then made a couple of shaking pars before managing to knock in a 24-foot birdie putt at the ninth.

"You saw what I did a year ago, I missed the cut here and I had to add an event, " he said. He hit 14 of 18 greens in regulation and moved up from a tie for 52nd when the third round began. "So I'm playing the weekend and I get two more rounds to kind of get after it".

As he prepared for all the post-round responsibilities that come with being Tiger Woods and the tournament host-an interview with CBS, then another with Sky Sports, then one more for good measure with a scrum of scribes, then participating in the trophy ceremony-Woods sat on the front of a parked golf cart, coffee in hand, treasuring each and every fleeting moment of rest.
