The Panthers have been awarded a third-round compensatory pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
"As the National Football League explains, compensatory picks are awarded to teams that lose more or better compensatory free agents than they acquire". All told, the National Football League awarded 32 compensatory picks to 15 teams Friday, with the Panthers receiving the fifth-highest compensatory pick among the seven third-round selections awarded. It hurts to see the two teams that met in Super Bowl LIII benefit from the compensatory pick formula, but that comes with good planning. The Panthers' biggest loss in free agency was guard Andrew Norwell, who signed with the Jaguars last spring. They dealt this year's sixth-round pick in a 2017 trade with Cincinnati for cornerback Bene Benwikere. After trading a third-rounder for Dante Fowler Jr.in October, the Rams were temporarily left with no selections in Round 3.
Despite the lack of extra compensatory picks, the Packers still have 10 selections in the 2019 draft, including two in the first round, two in the fourth round and two in the sixth round.
C.J. Anderson Explains How Patriots ‘Frustrated’ Rams In Super Bowl LIII
Anderson made the comments Tuesday on FS1's Undisputed . "He was more hurt than what we thought", Anderson said , via USA Today . Anderson, has now explained that Gurley was in poorer condition than the team initially disclosed as the playoffs wore on.
Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. This is because they were too active in the 2018 unrestricted free agency period, signing more qualifying players than they lost.
The Colts also entered last year's draft with nine picks, but by the end of the three-day event they had acquired and used 11 total picks.
