Donald Trump in particular seems to spend a large chunk of his waking days refuting allegations made against him.

Trump on Friday reportedly told GOP donors at his Florida resort that he got the name right but had said "Cook" really fast and people missed it.

"Tim Apple, yeah, one of the three famous Apple Boys: Tim, Pine and Cran", Colbert joked on Monday night.

"I quickly referred to Tim + Apple as Tim/Apple as an easy way to save time & words", Trump explained on his Twitter feed.

Trump tweeted out his explanation today and used the opportunity to blame the "fake news" media for "yet another bad Trump story!"

Beto O'Rourke launches 2020 bid for president, Texas TV station confirms
The announcement will come Thursday morning, KTSM reported . "I'm just born to do this", O'Rourke told the magazine. When it became clear that O'Rourke was considering a run in 2020, Trump again mocked the Democratic phenom.

Trump's denial, as you might expect, created more scrutiny on social media, with detractors pinpointing certain parts of his Tweet.

Last March at a White House event, he introduced Lockheed Martin CEO Marilyn Hewson as "Marilyn Lockheed". Trump was praising Cook for bringing some manufacturing back to the USA when finished by saying, "We appreciate it very much, Tim Apple".

Video recordings of the president speaking on Wednesday clearly show he did not say "Cook".

Yet, despite what you saw above, Trump is now claiming that he didn't make this rather minor mistake, which would have no impact what-so-ever on his presidency. I mean, you've really put a big investment in our country.

He later turned to his favourite line of attack, Axios said, calling out the "fake news" for focusing on the "Tim Apple" remark. "Hey look, it's Tim Apple, son of Apple founder Steve Apple", said one user.
