Tough luck for Gael Monfils retires from Indian Wells and the tennis fans as the Frenchman wasn't able to play his quarterfinal against Dominic Thiem on Thursday evening in Indian Wells.

Canada's Milos Raonic ended lucky loser Miomir Kecmanovic's dream run at the ATP Indian Wells Masters on Thursday, beating the Serbian teen 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals.

INDIAN WELLS, March 15 ― World number eight Dominic Thiem advanced to the ATP Indian Wells Masters semi-finals yesterday when scheduled quarter-final opponent Gael Monfils withdrew with injury.

"I wouldn't believe I win today again", Bencic said.

In the women's section, a slew of errors came at the worst possible time for Venus Williams as she blew a first set tie-break before losing 7-6 (3), 6-3 to Angelique Kerber in the quarterfinals. "I'm definitely playing how I feel it, and it's going well so I'm not planning on changing that".

In the women's singles, Belinda Bencic beat fifth seed Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the semis, ensuring her return to the top 20 in the rankings. "Because I was playing great tennis, feeling strong".

"I was really surprised", Thiem said, who was waiting to be taken to the court when he realized there was a problem". Speaking to reporters after her win, Kerber said, "Venus is just such a great player and an awesome champion".

Bencic was pushed to three sets Thursday for the first time in four matches at this tournament.

The three-time major champion advances to her first career final in the California desert, and first Premier Mandatory final overall, as she'll look to win her first title at the aforementioned tournament level against breakout Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu on Sunday.

With their first ever meeting going the distance, Bencic took the decider to extend her winning run to 12 matches and back up her upset of top seed and defending champion Naomi Osaka in the fourth round.

Bencic won her third career title at Dubai last month and her first since 2015.

Bencic could have made life easier for herself against Pliskova but only managed to convert four of her 16 break points against the Czech's serve.
