UCL Draws: City face Spurs as United draw Barca in last eight

Jurgen Klopp might have let down Liverpool fans hoping for more big stars this summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that he does not expect the Merseyside outfit to spend big in the summer transfer market, in news that will worry the Kop.

That significant investment has paid dividends, with Liverpool boasting the best defensive record in the Premier League so far as they go toe-to-toe with Manchester City for the title.

The Reds spent big a year ago in making Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker the record signings in their position, as well as bringing in Naby Keita, Fabinho and cut-price attacker Xherdan Shaqiri.

The semi-final pairings were also made with Tottenham or City to face Ajax or Juventus and Manchester United or Barcelona to meet either Liverpool or Porto.

"I don't think this is a team at the moment where we have to spend the big money", Klopp said. Ronaldo has been the key signing for Massimiliano Allegri's team, injecting belief in Turin that they can go all the way this time.

While European honours may have eluded Bayern again, they remain firmly in the hunt for a seventh-successive Bundesliga title ahead of Sunday's visit of Mainz, while they are through to the last eight of the German Cup.

Sergio Conceicao's team overcame Roma in the last round, and they have the experience of goalkeeper Iker Casillas, Pepe and Hector Herrera in their squad, but it is hard to suggest that Liverpool are anything other than overwhelming favourites to book a semifinal meeting against either Manchester United or Barcelona.

"I think there is a possibility they could do it, but I do believe Juventus and Barcelona, they were two of my favourites at the beginning". My standards are not thinking, 'We are Manchester City, we have to win everything.

"When I spoke with my chairman, CEO, sporting director, the people here working know, and they give credit for what we have done in the last two seasons". They had a lot of respect for us but I am not sure we always have the same amount of respect for ourselves.

McMahon is happy enough with the Porto tie, but admits if an English side had come out of the hat then he would have wanted it to be Tottenham. All the other things, the boys have so much space for improvement in all departments.
